(See more links to articles covering h2oPE in our News section) HOW TO SET UP A COMMUNITY OWNED HYDRO SCHEME WORKSHOP – from Concept to Completion NEW DATES FOR NEW WORKSHOPS 2010: 23 Sept, 25th Nov 2011: 20 Jan, 24 March, 19 May All: 11am to 3pm Venue: Energy Saving Trust Offices, Manchester h2oPE (Water Power Enterprises) have considerable experience in establishing community owned hydro schemes. They set up the country’s first such scheme in New Mills, Derbyshire and at Settle in north Yorkshire. They are currently working to establish 3 community owned hydro schemes during 2010 in Bainbridge, north Yorkshire and in Stockport. h2oPE is a social enterprise, funded by the Co-operative Group, Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust and Key Fund Yorkshire. Previous workshops in 2009 and the first half of 2010 were attended by over 290 people from 89 community groups. The workshop will look in detail at the financial, legal and regulatory processes that all schemes must engage with, as well as exploring the technical issues involved with hydro schemes. The financial details will include grants, share offers and bank loans while the regulatory processes will examine planning permission, the Environment Agency and lease arrangements. The workshop is FREE to community groups. Participants will be guaranteed to leave the workshop armed with a great deal of detailed knowledge about how to go set up a community owned hydro site.
